March weather brought a continuous stream of snowfall to the Eastern Sierras.  April shows no signs of slowing down with more snowfall still occurring.  This makes for great late season skiing and boarding opportunities so you can still get your money's worth from your pass if you haven't already.

Don't forget to renew your Value Pass April 1 - 30, 2006.  Value Passes are only available by renewal of a 2005/2006 Value Pass, no new Value Passes are available.  If you do not renew your Value Pass during the above dates, you will never be able to get another Value Pass as they are no longer for sale other than by annual renewal.

MAMMOTH/YOSEMITE AIRPORT NEWS

According to the Deputy Town Manager, there is less than a 50|50 chance that regional air service will be available December 2006 as originally planned and will most likely be December 2007.  At issue is that the Town is running out of time to do an Environmental Assessment (EA) or an Environmental Impact Survey (EIS).  The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) makes the decision as to which report will be required.  In the meantime, Letters of Intent from Horizon Air and United were submitted to the FAA for response.  The FAA is concerned with Earth Justice and the State AG's office and will be holding off on response until representatives of both groups can be contacted for further discussion.  Once a response is issued by the FAA, the LOI's can then be sent on to the TSA for determination of the environmental reports that will be required.  The TSA has already stated that the fencing surrounding the airport is not sufficient and will need to be replaced.  Additionally, easements will need to be obtained from the Forest Service and LADWP for the lands surrounding the airport for possible safety/security use.  (See http://www.mammothtimes.com/special_section/ for the full story)

The Airport Commission will meet again on April 11, 2006 to discuss the status of the airport since the last meeting on November 29, 2006.

DEVELOPMENT NEWS

The Planning Commission is scheduled for April 19 to review a proposed fractional condominium project on the North East corner of Old Mammoth Road and Minaret which would require the changing of the current deed restriction on the land.

On April 25, the Commission is scheduled to review "Hidden Creek", a project proposed for the Shady Rest site.

On April 26, the Commission is scheduled to review the proposal to convert 501 Old Mammoth Road into condominiums; Snowcreek VII proposal; Student housing at the College; Large Home development standards.

The Hillside project on Canyon Boulevard has been put on hold at the request of the applicant while the owner explores other options for the site.
